Toddler Tips – How to get out of eating Dinner

Spud had been out with Scatty Dad to the local farm and adventure playground and on the way back, they’d bought some sweets and a losing lottery ticket.  Tea was ready so they left the unopened sweets out of sight in the kitchen. Being a typical toddler, this big bag of sweets were bearing heavy on Spud’s mind.

Despite three seconds earlier saying that he was “really hungry Mummy” Spud decided he’d had enough tea after a couple of mouthfuls.

Tea on this particular night was sausage casserole with herb and garlic potatoes.  Pooh Bear ate his up beautifully but Spud was having none of it.

Toy Story is popular with the little fella at the moment, so thinking I was being clever, I decided to see if we could use that to our advantage and encourage him to eat more.

Me:  ”The bean (lentils & mung beans) sauce on your plate is what cowboys eat.  Woody loves sausage casserole with carrots and bean sauce”

Spud:  ”Cowboys no like it!  Fairies like it”

Me: (pleased)  ”Oh! Well, eat it all up like the fairies then”

Spud: (throwing his arms out)  ”I’m a fairy with wings! I can fly like an OWL!!!”

Me:  ”Brilliant, now eat your dinner nicely then and you can grow big and strong”

Spud: “Fairies no like bean sauce.  They choke on it” *Does his best choking impression*

He’s not three yet. My cooking is much tastier than his cheeky comment suggests!

I give up :D

He did eat more of his tea before any sweets passed his lips.  He does like to try it on first though as I’m sure most toddlers/children do.
